County Commissions Approve Penn Avenue Grant
Jackson County is set for a major visual upgrade at one of its primary gateways. The Board of County Commissioners recently greenlit a $250,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the Penn Avenue Beautification project. The funds are earmarked for extensive landscaping and aesthetic improvements near the I-10 exit, ensuring a better first impression for visitors entering Marianna.
Courthouse Square to Undergo Landmark Changes
In a 4–1 vote, the Jackson County Commission has moved forward with a redesign of the historic courthouse square. The plan involves the removal of a long-standing live oak to make way for a dual memorial. The new installation will honor both Lady Justice and Esop Bellamy, a significant local figure from the late 1800s known for planting many of the trees that define the square today.
